1949 Fiat Topolino 500C

This delightfult 1949 Fiat Topolino 500C was delivered new to the GM/Fiat dealer in Ottowa, Canada in 1950. It was subsequently sold to its first owner, the Italian Ambassdaor in Montreal for his wife. Today, the Fiat wears its original paint over a thoroughly rebuilt drive train. 
 
In 1957, the vehicle passed to Keith Collins of Manotick, Ontario. Keith drove the car until 1962, placed it in storage until 2000, then sold it to Joe Amendola of Ottowa.
 
In 2014, Amendola rebuilt the engine with new pistons, rings, mains and rod bearings, and had the crankshaft turned. The transmission was also rebuilt in addition to the brake system including new lines and a master cylinder.
 
The current Toronto owner purchased the Fiat in 2014. He removed the engine in order to strip and repaint various engine components including radiator and fuel tank.  All engine compartment accessories were properliy refinished, including interior and exterior of fuel tank and sealed with sloshing sealer. The fan housing was rebuilt, new fan bearings installed, extensive cleaning/refurbishing to radiator fins, heater air intake, heater, carburetor and the exhaust manifolds were media blasted and painted. The entire chassis underside and intetrior floor plans were media blasted and repainted. New correct seat covers and carpets were insllated as the originals were beyond saving.
 
The vehicle wears its original roof though a new roof is available with purchase.
 
This charming Fiat Topolino is perhaps the only known existing example in mostly original condition and shows just 50253 miles. The attention to detail to the thorough yet sympathetic preservation efforts will provide the new owner with many years of maintenance-free enjoyment. Restored examples fetch up to $50,000 yet lack the attraction of a time-warp original.
