Yes, that's a skier strapped to the top of a land speed car. Why? Who the f*ck knows, but there's been a whole load of skiers who have given this a try...
'Jungle' Jim Hunter was possibly the originator of strapping yourself and your skis to a vehicle when he invented truck skiing, prior to winning bronze at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics. He used this as practice and got up to the mighty speed of about 62mph. "

An 8 minute 35mm 1963 film of a british train bursting through snow in the countryside.
"Snow was Geoffrey Jones' first film for British Transport Films (BTF) but it owes its existence to a happy twist of fate. In September 1962 Jones began his research for a film about design for the British Railways Board. Armed with a 16mm camera, he travelled throughout the country, shooting film 'notes' of anything he found particularly interesting…Read more>> http://www.screenonline.org.uk/film/id/1234415/index.html

The concept is simple: put a rope on a car or motorcycle, presumably equipped with studded snow tires, then have the driver navigate a race course at speeds up to 100 miles per hour….
Filmed in Bavaria, Germany 1955.

"In the Russian city of Perm, deep within the country, means long, cold winters, which is good if you want to make longer-lasting ice sculptures.
A detailed, full-sized replica of the current generation Toyota Land Cruiser SUV was built by talented artists during a winter once sculpture expo. It's even got an interior which is accessible through the driver door, intentionally left open so kids can clammer in and enjoy."

Epecuen, Argentina. In 1985 a long period of heavy rains sent the lagoon bursting over its banks, and it swept over a busy small town
Epecuen was submerged beneath 10 metres (30 feet) of water and 1,500 residents fled their homes
Even when waters receded, the country town, 550 kilometres (340 miles) south of the capital, was never rebuilt. Here is a photo of what is left.
